How to Reach
Kudremukh National Park is about 350 km from Bangalore (roughly 7-8 hours by road) and 100 km from Mangalore. Most trekkers drive or take an overnight bus to Chikmagalur or Kalasa, then continue to the base village of Mullodi. From Balagal, the last stretch to the forest checkpost is only accessible by 4x4 jeep (shared jeeps available at the base, ~₹2000 per jeep for 6-8 people). Self-drive is possible until Mullodi; from there, park at the base and take the jeep.
Why Do This
Kudremukh means "horse-face" in Kannada, named after the shape the peak forms from certain angles. At 1,894m, it's one of Karnataka's highest points and sits inside a UNESCO-recognized Western Ghats biodiversity zone. The trail moves through shola forest, open rolling grasslands, and a long ridge walk before opening into a 360-degree summit view — one of the most rewarding day treks near Bangalore, and a good pick for both first-time and experienced trekkers.
